We’re Back!

August 23, 2010

Mitch, Katie, Ryland and I journeyed back into the United States late Thursday night and (despite me having the wrong name on my passport) made it into the country quite easily.  We had such a great time relaxing, exploring and spending time with our good friends.  We left on Sunday afternoon and after packing a van full of our of our gear (complete with a canoe strapped to the top), we set out for our adventure.  We first stopped in Niagara falls which was absolutely beautiful!  We spent the night not too far from there and woke up the next morning super early so we could make it in time for our taxi boat ride to our campsite.  We loaded up all of our stuff, rode out to the island where we staying and told the driver when we would like to be picked up and that was it!  About a half an hour later we had this…It is absolutely amazing how quickly we got everything up!  You might recognize our little living room-sized tent on the left–it was so cozy!  We got to stay in the same place Katie and I had stayed years before when we talked about how fun it would be to go camping together with our husbands some day…who would have thought!  This was the beautiful view we woke up to every morning…The lake we were staying on doubled as a canoe-hosting playground, a swimming pool, a puppy stick chasing splash land and a big bath tub.  That’s right.  Every day, in the midst of our swimming and general lake-enjoying, Katie and I would whip out our herbal essences shampoo and conditioner (who knew they were biodegradable?) and wash our hair in the lake.  Sophisticated camping?  Some might say so.  All I can say is that we smelled coconut fresh and were squeaky clean every day!  We even got creative one day and lathered up before jumping from a 30ft cliff into the water–all our husbands could do was laugh.

The guys went on a hike one day and saw this…

It’s little, but it’s a rattlesnake!  Eeek!  They are apparently all over the island we stayed on and we actually saw a park ranger catch one to release in a safer place.  Between that and the bear warnings…we were kept on our toes!

Spending the week with Katie and Ryland’s dog only intensified my puppy bug but surprisingly made Mitch catch one too!  Who knows what that might mean!  We had such a fun time relaxing by the campfires and I was amazed at how studly my man looks in flannel…

We loved the campfires, story-telling, reading, exploring, cliff jumping and being able to hang out with a couple of our favorite people.  The boys already started talking about our next trip which is ok by us girls!

On another note…today is Katie and Ryland’s 2nd anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!  We love you guys!
